Some churches have a long list of carefully worded statements complete with scripture references that they expect newcomers to agree with in order to be “in the club”. We hope you find Journey Community Church to be an environment where together we explore God’s values and vision—which means that why we walk together in the way of Jesus, we’re still navigating the path with each other’s help. Beyond a few basics, including our commitment to follow Jesus as Savior and our greatest teacher, we have some freedom to figure it out together, a “living room” for the community to learn, change, and grow in.
So here’s our most basic value: Love God, Love one another.
Luke 10:25-28 (NRSV):
25. “Just then a lawyer stood up to test Jesus. ‘Teacher,’ he said, ‘what must I do to inherit eternal life?’ 26. He said to him, ‘What is written in the law? What do you read there?’ 27. He answered, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.’ 28. And he said to him, ‘You have given the right answer; do this, and you will live.’
(For a wider perspective on these words of Jesus, compare Luke 10 to Matthew 22 and Mark 12)
Now to actually live this value—that is the challenge. Everything we are about in worship, mission, and spiritual growth as a faith community is connected to this: loving God with all that we have and all that we are, and loving the people right in front of us. Join the adventure of figuring out how to live this value, together!
