Wallace and Christy Smith, and their daughters Hanna and Hollyn, moved to Shawnee in 2008 to start Journey Community. Wallace is a native of Winfield, Kansas (the home of Mary Ann from “Gilligan’s Island”!). Wallace and Christy met in her hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana, where he served as associate minister at the First Baptist Church of Indianapolis for over 10 years. His first book, Baptism Ahead: A Road Map for Young Disciples, is available through Judson Press. Christy is a teacher in the Shawnee Mission School District and co-leads our Community team, with a focus in Children’s Ministry. Wallace is the pastor of Journey Community, though perhaps a different adjective for his role and vision for the church would be “spiritual environmentalist”: helping to create a space for people to genuinely explore faith and life together, complete with questions, doubts, fears, struggles, and grace, in a natural and healthy environment with plenty of “Living Room.”
